Lincoln - A historic city

Lincoln’s skyline is dominated by its world famous cathedral and castle, both steeped in 2000 years of history. Beneath this stunning skyline lies a city packed with atmosphere.

Today Lincoln is a lively city known to be a city of two halves - the ‘uphill’ area with its cobbled streets, historic buildings and Cathedral Quarter houses, unique and individual shops and the trendy café bars of the Bailgate area. The bustling ‘downhill’ area houses all the High Street retailers, Waterside Centre and Cornhill Market.

The city is home to countless world-class attractions, museums and galleries. Tourists from around the world enjoy can Lincoln Cathedral, one of the finest buildings in Europe, situated high on the hill overlooking the city - it can be seen from Burton Waters.

If you prefer a more leisurely pace you will appreciate the tranquillity of The Arboretum, an award winning Victorian park right in the centre of the city, recently transformed by a £3million regeneration project. Enjoy the fountains, ponds and maze, or watch the boats as they come and go from the Brayford Pool Waterfront.

The Lincolnshire countryside, once an area visited by kings and poets, is ideal cycling country where you’ll also find charming villages and traditional towns, such as Gainsborough and Sleaford. The coastal resorts of Cleethorpes and Skegness are just a car journey away.
